The innovative moulding process we specify to manufacture the hull of these display models enables us to include an incredible amount of intricate detail. We have put particular focus on improving the accuracy/scaling of the rigs and fittings such as anchors, cannons and longboats. They come supplied completely assembled ready for display, and accompanied by a history leaflet.

Details of HMS Mercury Tribute Model Boat

HMS Mercury was a 110 foot long armed frigate built in 1779 in a Thames dockyard. Captain Stanhope sailed her until 1797 when Captain T. Rogers assumed command of her in Newfoundland. In 1799 she was sent back to Portsmouth for a refit. On 19 January 1800 she sailed back up the English Channel to rejoin the Newfoundland fleet on its way to the Mediterranean.

On 24 January, HMS Mercury recaptured the Aimwell of Whitby while cruising some 85 miles southwest of Sicily. She had been taken fifteen days earlier by a French Privateer the Arriege, while bringing a valuable cargo from Quebec. When HMS Mercury returned with her to British waters she was ambushed by another privateer Brig, the Egyptienne.

The Mercury challenged the Egyptienne who hauled down her colours and opened fire, wounding one of Mercury’s men.

The innovative moulding process we specify to manufacture the hulls of these display model boats enables us to include an incredible amount of intricate detail at relatively low cost (compared with wood). We have put particular focus on improving the accuracy/scaling of the rigs and fittings such as anchors, cannons and longboats. It is difficult to tell them apart from enthusiast-built one-offs and we are convinced that these are the best value "serious" model boats on the market. They come completely assembled ready for display, and accompanied by a full history leaflet.
